Losing Hope...

A quick update. Transfer was yesterday. For someone reason I had become convinced that our embryos would be top notch and OF COURSE we'd get to do a 5 day transfer. Nope. I was a little devastated. When we went in for the transfer we found out that we only had 4 embryos left out of the 6, and the embryologist called them "fair to good." He said that they liked to see 8 cell embryos on day 3 and we had one 6 cell and two 5 cell. He didn't even talk about the fourth embryo. He recommended transferring three, which we did.

He said that they generally see an 80% fertilization rate, but out of our 14 mature eggs, only 6 fertilized, and none of those embryos were very good quality. So, I guess maybe we're not unexplained anymore. Either my eggs suck, my husband's sperm sucks, or they just don't make good embryos together. Either way this doesn't look good. I know I'm being too defeatist right now, but I feel like this is pretty bad news.

I lost a lot of hope in this cycle yesterday. I lost a lot of hope in us every becoming parents yesterday.

  2. I'm so sorry the results weren't what you'd hoped. I will remain optimistic for you, as I've read lots of stories about 6-cell embryos turning into babies. You are PUPO and I will keep my fingers firmly crossed. xoxo

  3. Ditto VV above. You are sooooooooooo IN THIS. Three solid embies are looking for a home in that fluffy lining of yours, getting ready to hunker in. I have the HIGHEST of hopes that one or two will get the job done! Go embies, go!!!

Keep your head up, you can do this! xoxo

  7. my nurse said yesterday to me that sometimes that transfer the greatest embryos (aka me and get nothing) and then the ones that pooh pooh over are the ones that work. I don't think it matters I think what matters is what happens when they get inside your body!! my thoughts are with you.

  8. hey jane - big hugs to you that you're feeling down. BUT ... you're not out of this game. i've actually heard and seen not-as-good-quality embies turn into babies, so cheer up please. a lot of times, the best embies on day 3 are not what turn into blasts and make babies, so you're totally PUPO and i have my fingers crossed for you. in my first ivf cycle, on day 3 i had 3 8-celled embies and 2 6-celled. we ended up transferring 2 of the 8-celled embies (chemical pregnancy), BUT my point. one of the 6-celled embies turned into a blast. so, you NEVER KNOW what's good on day 3. on the flip side, i've heard of sooo many 8 or even 10-celled embies on day 3 turn out to just fizzle, so hang in there. we're all rooting for you :o) hugs!

  9. Chins up! Girl!!! I understand how you may feel, but try to not worry about the numbers (oh, please remind me the same in 2-3 days). There are so many great stories out there, I am super hopeful for you. Also, those little ones will have greater chances to progress when implanted, so I am cheering for all three of your sweet little Embabies:) Go little ones, snuggle & grow!

  10. It only takes one of those three embies to flourish and turn into a baby. I know you have a long time to wait, but there is still hope. Many people have Day 3 transfers and end up pregnant. Good luck

  11. Three fair-to-good quality embryos is GOOD. I know it doesn't feel like it, especially after retrieving 14 mature ones, but you are so in the running. I am going to think good, good thoughts for you. And I ditto the previous commenters: from all kinds of seeds do bouncing babies grow.

  12. It only takes one...and fair to good is better than bad. :) Try to stay positive. Your little embies might just be slow starters. Praying for good news!
